Cam Aethera has been studying astrology independently since 2011* and has had an intense passion for comparative mythology since childhood. Throughout her journey in astrology, Cam has naturally formulated an approach that she calls Anthropological Astrology.
Professionally, she is a Teacher and Anthropologist, researching religion and spirituality in cultures throughout the world. This pretty much makes her a perfect example of a Libra (super) stellium in the 9th house, but (and you’ll see this a lot on this site): it’s not that simple!
Cam started The Scope Scoop in February of 2020 to share accessible (yet still extremely nuanced) information about astrology.
Rather than over-simplifying or generalizing, Cam aims to embrace complexity by diving into the rich array of social relationships, archetypes, symbols, and myths that can be connected to astrology and which are open to interpretation. Specifically, interpretation within its cultural context!
The attention to socio-cultural context is what makes Cam unique as an astrologer. She uses her own approach, Anthropological Astrology, where she combines her astrological and academic training.
The hallmark of this approach is reflexivity, an anthropological concept that pairs excellently with the more spiritual concepts of mindful awareness and manifestation.
Cam obtained her Moonology™ Certification in 2021 and is a student of Hellenistic Astrology (Chris Brennan). Regarding actual techniques and interpretations, Cam tends to lean more towards the Traditional rather than Modern. But, it is important to clarify that Cam’s approach of Anthropological Astrology does not fit into one category of practice and instead examines and incorporates all of them holistically.
Although she can help you with many things, Cam’s main specialization is in Retrospective Astrology, the examination and narrative reframing of past events in a cosmic context. Cam’s formulation of the Cosmic Hero’s Journey is particularly useful for creating new, more helpful and bliss-oriented narratives about the past. Everything happens for a reason, and that reason is always to help us fulfill our Cosmic Quests!
Cam will not prophesize your future, but she’s happy to give you some insight into your past and present that can help you better prepare for it!
NOTE: the study of astrology is a never-ending journey! Cam learns more everyday! Chronologically, the study was casual at first, filtering in through mythology, then serious study began in 2015 and has really picked up speed and intensity since 2018.
A New Approach to an Ancient Science:
Anthropological Astrology
Our anthropological (a.k.a., “mytho-cultural”) approach to astrology is about making it more ethical, practical, inclusive, and holistic. It is about removing cultural biases that make certain groups feel like 'others.' Astrology is not tied to one particular place and one particular time, it is neutral. It is our interpretation of certain traits/transits that makes them ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ These interpretations are rooted in our worldviews, shaped by our socialization into whatever culture we were born into.
It is about the realization that we are the co-creators of our reality. The Scope Scoop’s approach is uniquely focused on encouraging critical thinking and self-reflection, rather than giving people answers that may be satisfying temporarily but won’t necessarily contribute to any long-term self-development or healing.
It is not astrology-specific. It’s never a bad idea to start consciously curating your life nor a bad decision to follow your bliss, and cosmic alignment is a great way to start!

HOW IT WORKS
When getting into what she calls the “Astro Zone,” The Scope Scoop's astrologer, Cam Aethera, makes sure that she does everything possible to make every astro experience an inclusive, enlightening, enjoyable, and inspiring adventure for her students and clients alike! Here is how she prepares to examine charts:
Create Birth and/or Transit Chart: As Cam leans towards Traditional Astrology, she uses the Whole Sign House System.
Contextualize the Chart: An anthropologist by training, Cam always looks at things in context. She asks: What kinds of things were happening in the world (and particularly in the place you were born) around the day of your birth? How is the cosmic and cultural context inter-embedded?
Intuitive Analysis: Cam will intuitively interpret and analyze the birth/transit chart, starting from the most striking features and moving into more nuanced specifics. This analysis is informed by Moonology™ and traditional (Hellenistic) astrology, as well as cross-checking with various modern techniques, but is primarily an anthropological astrological analysis completely unique to Cam’s approach!
Plan the Outline: In order to preserve the freedom and flow of the conversation and ensure that you feel like a true participant in your destiny, Cam creates an interactive and adaptable outline of key points to cover. This is true even if it’s a lecture or a class that Cam is teaching because part of her approach includes an emphasis on everything dialogical and free-form!
Grounding & Cleansing: Before and after every period she spends in the Astro Zone, Cam practices a grounding ritual that ensures a purified energetic setting and safe space, giving everyone the best and most aligned experience possible.
